If you're a frequent StSL reader, you know that I'm a really big fan of The Civil Wars. The official music video for their brilliant single, "Poison & Wine", was just released and I had to share. Check out the video then head on over to iTunes or Amazon to buy the single!

I hadn't seen this video yet. I'm a CW fan, and this is just lovely.
And holy crap, there hasn't been this level of close proximity sexual tension since Mulder and Scully.
Daryl, do you know what CW is trying to do strategically in order to make it into the market? Releasing a free album and mosying about in cyberspace is a strange way to launch a band. Are they supposed to make a big break-out, or is this a side project for them?
Actually, it's an excellent way to launch a band and an extremely common one these days. They've had over 17,000 downloads of the free album so far and that's only growing. But it's not just cyberspace. They're out touring and recently enjoyed a placement of "Poison & Wine" in this past week's episode of Grey's Anatomy.
It's the age of the independent artist, Man. The grassroots approach is working and I really believe the balance is shifting to where the great art more often comes from the independent world than from the labels. And, back to the cyberspace point, I think you'd be surprised how many artists who are now popular and on labels started out just pushing their music online and at shows. It's what you and I would be doing if we were still playing together! =)
Incredible Duo!
