Questions w/ Andrew Osenga (part two)

Here is part two of “Questions” featuring Andrew Osenga. Be sure to check out the links at the bottom to learn more about Andrew and to purchase some of his music for yourself!

StSL - You’re a part of what appears to be a really tightly knit group of artists and songwriters. Tell us about the Square Peg Alliance and what it’s like to work within that kind of community.

AO - It's just a group of folks who have played music together for years now. We thought banding together might better help introduce our friends to our listeners, and all hopefully find new people to support us. Plus, it often gives us opportunities to see each other more. We all work hard and all have families, so this occasionally creates opportunities for us to hang out that otherwise wouldn't be there.

StSL - I’ve followed your music for several years now, and a song that has really meant a lot to me is “Swing Wide the Glimmering Gates.” Can you share a bit about the story behind that song?

AO - Someone sent me a poem they'd written with that line throughout and I loved it. The song came quickly, very autobiographical, and was a great endcap to my first "Letters to the Editor" project. Brite gave me the chance to rerecord it with a full band.

StSL - What have you been listening to lately?

AO - I love the newest U2, as well as The Killers. Paul Simon's last record was one of my favorites. The new Jars of Clay record "The Long Fall Back to Earth" is brilliant, as well.

StSL -
Let’s step away from music for a second. What’s your favorite movie quote?

AO - "Say what you will about the tenets of National Socialism, but at least it's an ethos!" - John Goodman in The Big Lebowski.

StSL - Can you tell us about what projects you’re working on right now, and what we can expect in the near future from Andy O?

AO - Solo wise I'm working on some new stuff for Brite, as well as a quite ambitious project about a spaceship. More to come. I'm producing a couple projects, mixing a few others and generally working in the studio 9 to 5 so I can come home to my kids every day and not have to go out on the road as much!

Thanks so much to Andrew Osenga for taking part in this! Please visit the links below and check back here soon for the next edition of "Questions".

I'm guessing you take some issue to his liking of U2, eh? I'm glad you had the personal restraint to hold back on your fury.

Great interview. Can't wait for the next one!

Not at all. I like U2. I just don't like ALL U2. And I totally agree about the Paul Simon record. I've really enjoyed that one too.
